The Ride Along
Kelly is out with Danny on a ride-along tonight. Hopefully, they won't have to chase any bad guys while Kelly is there. Danny still teases Kelly about the time when they both worked at the prison and Kelly came to back Danny up, but he forgot his gun. I think it would be best if they could just chase speeders and eat donuts tonight. I guess only time will tell, but they do have a knack for getting into trouble. In fact, they are not allowed to be in the house without adult supervision (which means me). This is to prevent them from breaking my Christus statue again (both of them still blame the other one). I just hope they have fun.

The Military Ball
Saturday night was the annual Military Ball. It's a fun night where we get dressed up, go out for a nice dinner, and then go hang out. I say hang out because we don't really dance too much. This year the Ball was at Rice Eccles Stadium and it was kind of different. I like it better when they have it in the ballroom - it just has a better atmosphere. However, the snacks were better this year and we didn't have to wait in line for an hour to get our picture taken. It was a fun night and Kelly and I even danced a little bit.
A self-portrait taken on the dance floor. As you can see we can come up with a lot of things to do besides dance!
Kelly was moon walking for me when the band was playing Michael Jackson. This is not really a good picture, but you get the idea. It is always fun when there is a live band. They played some good songs and everyone had a pretty good time. It is mostly entertaining to see what people are wearing. Hopefully, the pictures we had taken will turn out better than the pictures that we did with our camera. All in all, a fun night Ü

Mel's parents

Saturday night Melanie and I were in Salt Lake and decided to go up and see her parents. I know it is common for people to feel awkward around their in-laws or just plain not like them but that is not the case with me. Rick and Jolin are great parents in-law. I was thinking as we were eating dinner together, how much I enjoy being around them. I have always felt very welcome by them and a part of their family.
I knew I would love my future father-in-law when I went up to Fruit Heights and had my "talk" with Rick. I thought it would be a simple procedure, "I love your daughter and want to marry her." End of discussion. Not quite! I think after about 45 minutes of listening to Rick talk to me about the Irish Olympic athletes of the 2002 winter Olympics, I finally got to mumble something about my purpose in coming. Of course he knew my purpose and gave me his blessing...phew!
I knew I could love my future mother-in-law when Melanie reported to me that one day while going up the stairs from the basement, Jolin was behind me and she looked up and observed my abundant behind. She later noted to Melanie that she felt sorry for any of our future children because between Melanie's and my rear-ends, there was no way our kids could have anything less than large rear-ends too! With honesty like that, you at least always know where you stand.
As you can tell, I came into a pretty great family.
