4 Months Old

Shelby Boo is 4 months old!! She is getting so big and is learning new things all the time. She has put on some weight in the last little while. She jumped up the charts significantly, but I think it is because I started feeding her food at 2 1/2 months, rather than waiting until she was 4 months old. Hopefully, she can stay more towards the middle, rather than being the smallest. I guess it really doesn't matter - I think she is cute no matter what. With all this growing she has been doing she still does a lot of sleeping too.
Here are the updated stats:

Shelby is doing well and she is now eating green beans, peas, avocados, butternut squash, carrots, sweet potatoes, pears, and applesauce. She is a really good eater and hasn't turned anything away yet. She definitely takes after her mom Ü

Unwanted Guests

You know how sometimes someone will come over, uninvited, and then you can't get them to leave? We have had such guests for a few days now. Some incontinent birds have taken residence in our BBQ grill and have not only converted it into a bedroom, but a bathroom as well. I think we have finally gotten rid of them, but they certainly made quite a mess during their stay. Anyone want to come over for BBQ bird with a side of guano??

The Hygienist Will See You Now

Unfortunately, it is that time of year again. Kelly and I both have to go to the dentist. I guess it must be done, but it just seems like such a waste of time. This is Shelby in her pajamas, showing off her newfound skill of standing up. I think she looks like a hygienist and Kelly calls these her scrubs. I tried to get her to hold the spoon in her hand, but I think it was just too much. Here's to hoping that I don't have any cavities, although I think I am in for some drilling.

Family Drill

A couple weekends ago, we "got to" participate in something called Family Drill. This means we were voluntold that drill weekend was for the whole family instead of just for Kelly. I didn't know they could do that. I mean, it's one thing if Kelly has to go hang out all weekend and be bored, but why should I have to suffer? We went here: If you are like me you have no idea where this is and better yet don't care because you may have noticed there is SNOW in the picture. Why would I want to go somewhere that cold? Well, this is Snowbird and FYI it was a super nice weekend at home. Instead of enjoying the warm and the sun at home, we spent the weekend hiking across the bunny hill with a stroller! This was definitely not a real baby friendly environment despite the fact that there were a large number of babies in attendance. We did get a family picture taken of us while we were attending a class, or rather sitting in the hall pretending to attend a class.
Kelly just recently transferred to a new unit, so it was a good opportunity for me to meet some of the other spouses. I made some new friends and managed to get through the entire weekend without saying something that would get Kelly in trouble. I would say that equals a success. At least I don't have to go to Family Drill for another year!

Just Like Christmas Morning!

We spent last Christmas in the hospital and did not get to have the normal Christmas morning fun. However, just this last week we had a Christmas morning experience for both Shelby and Kelly!
Shelby got an activity jumper from Great Grandpa and Grandma Jones for Christmas and I decided to put it together for her. I put her on a blanket on the floor of her room and began assembling it around her. She fell asleep long before we were done putting it together. It reminded me of A Christmas Story when the kids fall asleep in the pile of presents.
Also, there was the obligatory pile of boxes and garbage with parts all over the floor. It was quite a process. Unfortunately, Shelby does not meet the height requirement for the jumper. The picture indicates that at 4 months they should be able to touch the ground with their toes. At the lowest height setting, Shelby's toes clear the ground by at least 4 inches. It is more difficult to turn the chair by herself when her legs just dangle.
Next, Kelly had to turn in all of his BDU equipment and get new ACU equipment. This was a lot of fun stuff. He got a big box and a giant bag full of stuff. We had fun going through everything and made quite a mess in the TV room. Here he is testing out his new poncho. I do think that where we live he would benefit much more from a wind breaker Ü
I am so glad that we got to have Christmas morning, albeit a little late. My family and I have so much fun and I love being able to spend so much time with them!

Di Salsa

Happy 100,000 miles to my cute car! I have had my car for 9 1/2 years and we just hit the big 100. I haven't been driving my car much lately because Kelly and I have mostly switched cars because the car seat base is in the Trailblazer. I was driving Salsa Verde when we hit the magic number! Shelby and I were on the way to the store and I was reminded of how much I like my car. It has been a great car and will hopefully hang in there for another 100,000!!!

Happy Easter!

My version of chicks, ducks and bunnies this year!

We had a nice Easter listening to Conference and spending time together as a family. We listened to the afternoon session while taking a scenic drive. We drove West on SR 73 and drove the loop from our house out past Tooele and back . It was quite the drive and we saw a lot of things we had never seen before. It was a nice, relaxing day.
We also took some time to take some pictures of cute, little Shelby. She looks so cute in her Easter dress that I had to have some pictures. She has been spending some quality time with her Cabbage Patch Easter Bunny from Grandma. I love to smell it because it smells just like my Cabbage Patch Kids did. Shelby is more interested in sucking on it for now, but she likes the polka dots on her tummy.


Shelby is 3 1/2 months old now and I wanted to list some of the things about her at this age so I don't forget:

* She loves to talk and smile and some days has lots to say
* She slept through the night 2 days in a row, but had to break the trend last night
* She eats cereal, green beans, and carrots and is a pro at eating with a spoon
* She is a couch potato and loves to watch TV
* She can roll from back to front, but not quite from front to back
* She loves polka dots! Nothing makes her more happy than to lay on her changing pad and look at the polka dots in her room
* She is just starting to take an interest in playing with things
* She loves to suck on her hands, which is why I promote the binky so much (it is much easier to take away down the road)
* She is a determined little girl and will let you know when things aren't the way she wants
* She can play her dad like a piano


Easter helps me to think of the many blessings I have and how we have been taken care of. I am grateful to have Kelly and Shelby as part of my forever family Ü

Mommy's Little Girl

Our families are constantly referring to Shelby as little Melanie. Poor Kelly is always looking for something that she might have got from him. Just for comparison I decided to post a picture of me when I was little. There are some pictures where we look a lot alike and some not as much. You decide for yourself

This is a picture of me at 2 months of age. I apparently had a freakishly big and odd-shaped head. I think we should just attribute that to bad lighting or camera angle.
Shelby definitely has a more round head. Unfortunately, Kelly does not have a round head, so Shelby just must be mature for her age. She does look just like a Miller and we all have round heads. I think we have the same nose, for sure. Lucky for her she is a good mix of Kelly and I. I think she took the good from both of us and left the not so good behind. She sure is cute! I blame the fat rolls on her arms on Kelly. I have those now, but never had them as a child, whereas he had them as a child and does not have them now.
